How to get bedbugs out of the sofa yourself

It is very important to notice the appearance of bugs on time. These insects breed quite quickly, and numerous folds and dense seams of the sofa will only contribute to their shelter. In addition, adults can hide in the cracks and openings of your furniture, so the question of how to get bedbugs out of the couch should be approached immediately, until their colonies have spread throughout the apartment.
Getting bugs out of the couch is not easy
Sofas, both old and brand new, attract bugs for several reasons:

  • firstly, parasites are very close to the source of saturation - a person, they do not have to travel far to find food. Also, this factor allows bugs not to be noticed - they suck blood and immediately hide in their nest;
  • secondly, bed bugs settle in the couch, because they are very comfortable there. The materials from which the sofas are made are able to store the heat of the human body, due to which the bugs settle there.

Methods for removing bugs

If we compare the specifics of removing bugs from upholstered furniture and premises, they are somewhat different from each other. There are not so many methods for removing these parasites specifically from the sofa. We will analyze each of them in turn.

Mechanical method

Perhaps this is the longest and most unpleasant process, but at the same time the cheapest. Its essence lies in catching insects with your hands or with a vacuum cleaner.

Before starting activities to remove bugs from the sofa, it must be moved away from the wall and disassembled.

The effectiveness of this method is not very high and does not give a 100% guarantee of getting rid of parasites.

Heat treatment

If bed bugs are started in the sofa, then the following methods will help you get rid of them:

  • the use of high temperatures;
  • freezing.

An old sofa, which is not too scary to spoil, can be treated with boiling water. After that, the furniture should be taken out into the open air so that it is completely dry. Otherwise, wooden elements and textiles, saturated with moisture, will simply become worthless.

Of course, if furniture does not represent any value at all, then it is easier to throw it away and acquire a new one.

Heat treatment at high temperatures can also be carried out if a steam generator is used. And time for drying the sofa will require much less.

The steam generator has a sufficiently high steam temperature at the outlet, which is quite enough for the bugs to die.

If you choose freezing, you should know that adults, larvae, and insect eggs are guaranteed to die at a temperature of -18 ° C. Therefore, there is no need to purchase any special devices. It is enough to take out the sofa in the cold and leave it for a day, ideally - for two. Of course, this method is applicable only in winter.

Heat treatment of the sofa is a fairly simple method, as this piece of furniture is mobile.

Chemical treatment

The most effective way to get bugs out of the couch is to use chemicals. Today on sale you can find a lot of such tools, but before you apply them, you should perform the following actions:

  • remove all food products and personal care products (washcloths, toothbrushes) from the chemical treatment area;
  • isolate pets and objects associated with them (feed trays, sleeping places, lodges);
  • hand over the curtains and bedspreads or at least wash them in boiling mode.

Bed bugs are able to acquire immunity to poisons and quickly restore their numbers. Therefore, a week after the chemical treatment of the sofa, you can again notice their appearance. To exclude this, it is necessary to carefully process all possible places of their habitat: cracks, folds, seams.

Quite rarely it turns out to get rid of insects after the first use of chemicals. Most likely, this process will have to be repeated more than once.
Bedbugs may well move to various secluded places to wait out the action of the poison, and then return to the cozy sofa.

After disinfection, the upholstered furniture must be thoroughly vacuumed to remove the eggs left and the dead adults. Then the sofa should be treated with a solution consisting of one part of soda and four parts of water, and vacuum again.

There are also numerous folk ways to deal with bed bugs. They are based on the preparation of tinctures and the spread on the surface of furniture of various herbs that emit a strong aroma. But the result from them is almost imperceptible. And such caustic constituents as vinegar and turpentine can completely ruin the new sofa. Nevertheless, it will be useful to know what aromas can scare away home parasites - this can be useful for prevention. Bedbugs are guaranteed to die after professional treatment of infected areas of the apartment by pest control workers. This method is somewhat more expensive than buying poisonous drugs, but more effective.

  • Unfortunately, it is impossible to spray everything inside the sofa and its spring mattresses. In addition, if there are bugs in the sofa, then they are somewhere else. So just getting them out of the couch, even if possible, is not enough. And throwing a sofa for the same reason will not change the situation.

    Personally, having etched as much as possible the surface of the sofa, I put its legs with glue on wide chipboards, which, in turn, were coated with ALT non-drying glue. On the sofa, so far I have found only a bug skin (damn it). And a couple of pieces stuck at night to ALT while trying to crawl into the sofa. We'll see. what will happen next...
