Is the Prestige really effective from the Colorado potato beetle?

Colorado potato beetles do tremendous damage to potato plantations. Being very voracious, these insects attack young entrances, later get to the inflorescences, and when the tubers ripen, they spoil them. Experienced agronomists prefer to use modern insectofungicides to protect potatoes, and they put Prestige against the Colorado potato beetle in one of the first places among them. This drug is good because it helps against soil pests and some diseases.

Prestige from the Colorado potato beetle

Composition and mechanism of action

The remedy for the Colorado potato beetle “Prestige” is based on imidaclopride. This substance belongs to chlornicotinyls, characterized as highly effective substances of contact action. Once in the body of an insect, imidacloprid attacks its nervous system and blocks the transmission of impulses.

The activity of the drug begins immediately after the processed potato enters the soil. Under the influence of soil moisture, a partial release of the active substance occurs, which creates a kind of "protective screen" around the tuber. The young sprout gains strength and in the process of growth, using its root system, sucks this protective substance from the soil and the mother tuber. Imidacloprid gradually spreads to all cells and organs of the plant and performs several functions at once:

  • firstly, it protects against pests during the growing season;
  • secondly, it neutralizes the attacks of fungi and bacteria;
  • thirdly, it helps plants tolerate stressful conditions such as heat, lack of light, temperature changes at night and drought.

Validity

"Prestige" manifests an insecticidal effect against:

  • Colorado beetles for a period of up to 37 days from the moment of emergence of seedlings;
  • wireworms throughout the growing season;
  • aphids, which are the main carrier of viral diseases, for up to 39 days from the time of emergence of seedlings;
  • scab and rhizoctonia during the entire growing season.

Terms of use

According to the instructions, “Prestige” from the Colorado potato beetle can be used to process tubers before germination, immediately before planting, and also to protect seedlings.

On a note! Prestige is a concentrated suspension from which a working solution is prepared. The product is diluted with water in proportions that will depend on the purpose of the drug!

Consider each option in more detail.

Preplant treatment

Tuber dressing is an important part of activities aimed at protecting potatoes from pests and diseases. Thanks to this operation, the infection is eliminated on the tubers and the potato receives reliable protection against the action of microorganisms throughout the entire period of germination.

Important! Dressing tubers does not exempt the agronomist from the subsequent use of drugs whose action is aimed at protecting against late blight, as well as other diseases and pests!

  1. Prepare a working solution of 50 ml of concentrated suspension and 2.5-3 l of water. This amount is enough for 50 kg of potatoes.
  2. For processing, use a balloon sprayer, a backpack sprayer or a household spray.
  3. Spread the seed material on a film or sheet of roofing material, its layer should not be higher than 2-3 tubers.
  4. Spray the drug on the tubers, with each should be covered with a solution of at least ¾. To increase efficiency, after complete drying, each tuber can be turned over and repeated processing on the other hand.

Important! Do not cut treated tubers before planting!

Processing before germination

Poison from the Colorado potato beetle Prestige can be used before germination of tubers. In this case, the processing is carried out in advance - for 15-20 days.

  1. The working solution is prepared from 30 ml of suspension and 600 ml of water.
  2. Using a spray gun, the solution is sprayed onto the tubers and left them for some time until completely dry.
  3. The processed potatoes are laid for germination and treated with the same solution again before planting.

On a note! Seed potatoes can be simultaneously treated with growth regulators and biologically active substances! At the same time, the surface of the planting material must be processed at least 90%!

Seedling protection

As you know, the Colorado potato beetle attacks not only potatoes, but also other crops, such as tomatoes, eggplant, cabbage and bell peppers. Protravitel "Prestige" can be used for their protection.

  1. Prepare a working solution of 10 ml of concentrate and 1 liter of water.
  2. Lower the roots of the seedlings in the finished product and leave for 8 hours.
  3. After the specified time, the seedlings should immediately be planted in the ground.

Features of the tool

  1. Until the moment of decay, the active substance of the protectant reliably protects the planting material from pests and diseases.
  2. If you want to use this tool in combination with growth stimulants, microelements or other pesticides, you must first conduct a compatibility test.
  3. "Prestige" from the Colorado potato beetle belongs to the III class of toxicity, and therefore is harmful to humans. Before performing any manipulations with the concentrated suspension, the skin, mucous membranes and respiratory tract should be protected by wearing personal protective equipment.
  4. The effectiveness of the drug will depend on the uniformity of its spraying and the continuity of the spray torch.
  5. The active substance begins to work from the moment of processing.

Toxicity

"Prestige" from the Colorado potato beetle has low toxicity, as it belongs to the third class, therefore it can cause some harm. To avoid health problems, the following is recommended:

  • processed tubers should be packed in a protective film before transportation;
  • during processing and planting, it is necessary to observe safety rules, using preventive protective equipment: gloves and a mask;
  • The Prestige drug can be used to process potato varieties harvested in August, since the active substance leaves the tubers only 2 months after processing;
  • if you plan to plant potatoes in the third or fourth decade of April and the Prestige preparation is used for its processing, then you should choose medium-late or medium-early varieties.

Important! For early varieties of potatoes, which are harvested already in June or July, the Prestige dressing is extremely undesirable! In such a short time, the poison will not have time to leave the processed tubers!

  • Processed last year, tubers before planting. All summer they did not know what bugs were, although there were a lot of bugs among neighbors in the site. When digging, there was no wireworm.

    I recommend the tool, verified by the crop))

  • Last year and this year there is no Colorado, and last year potatoes are well preserved.we will purchase and use next year. To calm the potatoes we will eat only 3 months after planting.
