How to recognize and get rid of a mukoed

Mukoed is a small heat-loving insect, which is a malicious pest of flour, grain, nuts, dried fruits and other food stocks. This pest can parasitize in large granaries, bakeries, shops and in residential buildings and apartments. On the territory of our country, it is ubiquitous, and in the southern regions the parasite lives in any premises, and in the northern regions - only in heated ones.

Mucoeater

Description

Suriname flour-eater belongs to a very common type of domestic pests. The length of his flat and elongated body is about 2-3.5 mm. The integument is painted in brown color, which can have various shades: from light to dark. The surface of chitin is matte with short tightly fitting villi. The head, like the body, has a flattened shape. There are antennae on the head, the length of which is no more than half the length of the body.
The elytra of the mucoeater at the base is represented by a rectangular shape, on the surface there are point grooves. The wings of this insect are well developed - it is able to fly and is generally quite mobile.

The red mucoeater is thermophilic and for its normal reproduction and development, an air temperature is required, which will be in the range from +25 to + 27 ° C with its relative humidity of 65%. Under such conditions, 44 days are enough for the development of one generation.

On a note! If the air temperature drops below + 16 ° C, the mucoeaters stop breeding! And at 0 ° C the insect dies within 22 days, at -5 ° C - 13 days!

Malware

And what is the danger of Surinamese mukoed? First of all, by the fact that it is capable of severely damaging large stocks of flour, cereals and grains in a rather short period of time. In addition, this pest can often be found in dried fruits and vegetables, often in those that are already moldy.

On a note! At one time, the female mucoeater is capable of laying from 100 to 600 eggs. She makes masonry on a food substrate, which subsequently feeds the appeared larvae!

A mucoeater is also dangerous because it reduces the value of contaminated food products to absolute zero. Eating them is highly discouraged, as there is a high probability of an allergic reaction.

Ways of penetration of the mucoed into the apartment

Initially, the mukoed beetle lives, of course, in the wild, but it does not live long. Most often it can be found under the bark of trees and in rotten stumps. If possible, he immediately moves to industrial enterprises: mills, barns, bakeries, feed mills, etc. There, insect development is already proceeding more successfully.

On a note! Despite the fact that the mukoed is a threat to various products, it will only damage certain reserves - whose moisture content is at least 15-16%! If the product is too dry, then the insects gather in groups and contaminate it with excrement and discarded shells, thereby increasing the humidity of the stocks!

Where do flour eaters come from in our kitchens? The pest usually enters the apartment as follows:

  • in bags of infected flour and cereals, from where they are subsequently distributed throughout the house;
  • flour bugs are often found in packages of grain feed and pet food of poor quality;
  • within the enterprise and even the settlement, mucoeders can spread by active expansion.

Thus, it turns out that in most cases we bring the parasite to our home along with infected food. But be that as it may, when you find a mucoeater in the kitchen cabinet, you need to clearly know how to get rid of it, because only timely and correct measures will help to quickly remove it from the apartment.

Methods of struggle

So, before using any poisonous or deterring agent from a mucoeater, you must do the following:

  • free kitchen cabinets and bedside tables from food, utensils and other items and remove all spilled stocks - flour, cereals, etc .;
  • dilute a tablespoon of vinegar in a liter of water and wipe all surfaces of the kitchen unit with the resulting solution;
  • in order to destroy flour eaters who could hide in hard-to-reach places, it is necessary to bring water to a boil and pour all the cracks with steep boiling water (if you are sure that this measure will not harm your furniture!);
  • thoroughly wash cans and other containers in which flour and cereals are stored with laundry soap and treat with boiling water;
  • if the supplies were stored in linen bags, then the latter should be soaked in a salt solution, and then dried without rinsing;

On a note! After such an event, the female mucoeater will no longer lay eggs on the bags!

Folk remedies

Now it’s the turn to choose how to poison the mucoeater. If there are few insects, then for their destruction it is quite possible to apply folk remedies.

  • These pests do not like the smell of bay leaf and garlic.
  • Pyrethrum - this powder is a real poison for the mucoeater. You can buy it at the pharmacy. Powder is scattered on the shelves of kitchen cabinets or placed in cloth bags. After one and a half to two weeks, the old drug should be discarded and fresh powder should be put. Two treatments will be enough.
  • Bugs can also be brought out with a simple bait. We mix in equal amounts borax, powdered sugar and any finely ground grits. We lay out the finished mixture on pieces of paper in kitchen tables. Mukoedov will begin to eat the poisoned bait and die from the poison present in its composition.
  • It is recommended that sticky traps be used from the mucoeater. They are placed in the kitchen and in other rooms where the parasite has been detected and changed as they fill.

Advice! They will work especially effectively together with deterrents - the bug escapes from an unpleasant odor and gets into a sticky trap!

Insecticides

In most cases, the above tools and methods help get rid of Surinamese mucoed, and both poison and repellents show high efficiency. However, if the insects managed to breed and there were too many of them, then in this case insecticides cannot be dispensed with.

So, from a mucoeater you can use:

  • "Dichlorvos";
  • "Raptor";
  • "RAID";
  • Combat, etc.

All of them are applied according to one scheme. First, food and utensils should be taken out of the room and people and animals should have limited access to it. Next, close the windows and spray the product evenly on all surfaces, including the inside of the cabinets and nightstands. After processing, the room is closed and the time prescribed in the instructions is maintained. Finally, wet cleaning is carried out.

It is quite possible to destroy a mucoeater in an apartment on your own. The main thing is, if a pest is detected, immediately take steps to eliminate it, and then carefully inspect cereals, flour and other bulk products purchased in the store.

  • To me along with furniture from the chipboard (in the boxes) of the store, bugs very similar to a flour-eater arrived, ran around the apartment. The question is where did they get to the chipboard, can there still be larvae? Or is it another bug?

  • I want to say that the bay leaf did not work at all, they just hid under it! And they crawled into the garlic (((this is a gingerbread cookie, if that.

    Peppermint chewing gum (there is such a method) is also rather weak, although it is better than the tee leaf. Peppermint essential oil will be more powerful, but again, even the concentration should be normal straight (more). I'll try to pickle, but the fact that I don’t have to wash everything (with vinegar and a solution with mint).
