What wasps are afraid of: a list of deterrents and methods for use in the garden and apartment building

Wasps are not just annoying insects. They are dangerous by bites, causing painful reactions on the skin and poor health. Therefore, the owners of country houses and cottages will be useful information, which wasps are afraid. Such knowledge will help to avoid unpleasant meetings.

Outdoor scare

The list of means, how to scare away wasps in nature and the open air, is quite extensive. From it you can choose the method that is suitable in a particular situation.

Wasp

Smoke

Observing changes in the behavior of flying insects after lighting a fire, you can find the answer to the question of whether wasps of smoke are afraid. From his appearance, they disappear, because they do not tolerate its pungent smell.

How is this practiced? The outdated method is fumigating rooms when firing a portable stove. But today it is not used because of the risk of fire and the need to ventilate the building for a long time. In addition, the smell eats up in wood, furniture and fabrics, so fumigation can only be used in non-residential brick buildings.

But on a picnic or in a kindle, a kindling of a fire will scare away the wasps, and it will be possible to rest calmly. The effect is enhanced by adding wood to the woods and needles of spruce or pine: when burning, they emit strongly smelling substances, the aroma of which wasps do not tolerate.

Water

Many are interested in whether water wasps are afraid, because the liquid is always at hand. All flying insects do not like drops of moisture falling on their wings, because they interfere with their flight. For this reason, in rainy weather it is almost impossible to see wasps: they hide in their hive or in other secluded corners. Therefore, if when bathing they appear near a person, you can try to splash water in them. Spraying from a spray gun, if it is at hand, will also produce a short-term effect on the enemy.

But water in the fight against wasps is mainly used to destroy hives located near the ground. You can collect a bucket or other similar container, the diameter of which exceeds the size of the nest, and put on it for 5-10 minutes from the bottom. The hole in the aspen house is located below, so the inhabitants with quick action will not have time to get out. When water fills the hive from the inside, its inhabitants will begin to die. After that, you can separate the nest from the surface to which it is attached, and destroy. The attachment point is treated with an insecticidal solution or potassium permanganate.

Before approaching the aspen nest, you must protect yourself: put on tight clothing so that there are no exposed skin areas, including gloves and a mosquito mask.

Another way to use water against wasps is to knock nests into a bucket of boiling water. So the death of insects occurs much faster.

Plants

There are also flowers and herbs that repel wasps. Such plants include those familiar to everyone:

  • mint and lemon balm;
  • basil;
  • wormwood;
  • various types of geraniums.

Their smell from wasps produces an effect because they contain strongly smelling substances, primarily essential oils.For a person, they are either pleasant or neutral. But the insect, most likely, will prefer to fly around the garden with such plantings side.

Plants against wasps will bring other benefits: peppermint and lemon balm produce wonderful teas with a calming effect, geraniums are a popular decoration for flower beds and balconies, and basil is added as a spice to various dishes.

To little-known plants that scare away wasps, common harmala belongs. Especially its insecticidal properties are noticeable if you ignite a bunch of grass. If you throw it in a fire, then the insects will not be scary. True, this plant can be found mainly in the hot steppes in eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Chemical substances

What smell scares away wasps? These dangerous insects do not like liquid combustible materials: gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel and solvent. The pronounced "aroma" of these chemicals is not pleasant to humans, moreover, it can cause toxic poisoning of the body. Therefore, they can be used as a deterrent only for spraying nests on the street or in non-residential premises (garages).

There is a high probability that the swarm does not want to be adjacent to the smell and goes in search of a better place. Most individuals can even die when poisonous vapors enter the body through the respiratory system.

To drive wasps out of the nest using gasoline, kerosene or solvent, you must adhere to the following action plan:

  1. Take a suitable container with a spray bottle and fill it with flammable liquid.
  2. Spray the hive from below so that a larger amount of the substance falls on the lower part around the hole: it will be easier for smelling fumes to penetrate into the nest.
  3. Depart to a safe distance and wait for the wasps to leave their home.
  4. If the insects do not fly out, then too little fluid has been used. The procedure can be repeated.
  5. When the nest becomes free, it is removed and burned.

It is important not to forget about fire safety. Due to the risk of fire, combustible materials are strongly discouraged from processing nests in wooden buildings.

When burning the nest, one should also be careful: because of the impregnation, it will quickly flare up, so destruction is carried out in open space. It is better to have at hand a supply of water or sand in order to extinguish a fire in an emergency.

Ultrasound

Immediately after receiving a positive answer to the question whether wasps are afraid of ultrasound, different companies began to produce ultrasonic repellers. They can be used both in the house, and on a personal plot. Ultrasonic waves are safe for humans, while wasps will not dare to approach their source.

But there is a downside: ultrasound will drive away beneficial insects. Some scientists believe that small animals, including cats and dogs, also experience discomfort from it.

Repelling wasps in residential areas

Much less means are suitable in order to scare away wasps in residential premises. After all, the method should not only be safe, but also not upset the comfort. For example, you can use:

  • coniferous essential oils for igniting aroma lamps;
  • geranium planted on a windowsill;
  • ultrasound devices;
  • small traps with a sweet bait.

The most reliable way to prevent the appearance of wasps in the house is to cut off their penetration paths. Therefore, windows and (if necessary) doors should be protected by mosquito nets, and cracks and crevices in the walls of the house and window frames should be carefully closed.

Another method to scare away wasps is to use special repellents sold in the store. They are released in the form of sprays for application to the skin and repellers with bright odors. Of all the possible measures that help to scare away insects, you can choose the most suitable.

  • Why bother with them at all? Destroy. They will populate a nest, breed their offspring and fly away to winter. And they will never attack just like that, first. And to kill them with boiling water and gasoline is just some barbarism!

  • most likely they were not scared away by a rag with vinegar, but by Wiki's illiteracy))))))

    In the middle of the night I woke up from the wild squeal of my puppy. She jumped up, grabbed the baby in her arms, turned on the light, could not understand anything until she saw this creature in convulsions on the floor, and it was not a bee. While reassuring Dandy screaming at the whole house, another one flew by. Then again. I jumped out of the room in search of some means, even from a moth, and there were about five more in the corridor. What is it, materievo, was ... Even in the evening I did not see a single one. Thanks so much for the advice.

  • Olga Well, how can you build an angel out of yourself? Sorry for her you see them. They apparently did not attack you and did not sting the children. Destroy these creatures in any way!

  • Wild bees and wasps spoil wooden houses, so you need to deal with them. But all that is said above does not help ...

  • Well, actually, wasps and bees attack and bite for no reason. Matter of chance. Perhaps it depends on the mood of the insect. Perhaps once in the room they begin to bite with hunger. And if you live in a city, you can safely kill the first bee that comes across. Because in the city, in fact, breeding of bees and apiaries is prohibited. Therefore, if they fly in the city, and especially in the premises, then they are definitely not apiary.

  • Last year, for the first time in my life, a wasp bit me, the result: a strong allergic reaction, anaphylactic shock. Fortunately, there was more than one ... Be careful if you don’t know how your body reacts to a wasp sting ...

  • Olga, and if in the house or near the house the hive and bite the children !? What not to get rid of them let them fly bite children yes? Do not make yourself such an angel if you are not bitten, this does not mean that they do not bite anyone!

I didn’t even understand what happened ... they just tried to devour me ... and where did my loyal attitude go ... I declared war on them, here I am looking for options ...

  • I had anaphylactic shock from a wasp sting repeatedly, it is very dangerous, 15 minutes and there is no person, if the wasp bites at the neck or in the chest area, the reaction is instant, I swell, my lungs become swollen.

    Allergist Tips:

    1. Do not use any perfume in the summer.

    2. Carry antihistamines.

    3. immediately after the bite, call an ambulance, which will inject the hormone.

    Once in Turkey, in a hotel cafe, a wasp bit me and the Turkish women from the service staff started shouting "KATCHAP, KATCHAP!"

    Witnesses translated this word to me, it turned out to be just KETCHUP !!!

    Now, I carry a disposable bag of Ketchup in my purse, as soon as I was bitten by a wasp, I lubricate the bite site. Surprisingly, I did not have more anaphylactic shock, although wasps were bitten in the country repeatedly. When there is no ketchup on hand, you can crush the pickled tomato and grease the bite.

    So it was in the country, a wasp bit, there was no ketchup, but there were cans of tomatoes in the cellar. I managed to get to the cellar, open the bank before the reaction.

    In my country, wasps make their nests in various places: under the roof of a house, under a hatch of a well, in a pipe for knocking out carpets, in a jug of a fountain, in their electric meter their favorite place.

    In the fountain, I poured boiling water over them from a sprayer, always at night, when they all get together.

    I sprayed dichlorvos in the meter, moisture can not be used there.

    There are always bouquets of melissa on the veranda, I want to put it in a pot on the perimeter of the veranda. Geranium works effectively.

    I ground the dry clove inflorescences in a coffee grinder and added this powder to the cream, when there are many and many flowers that attract them, I lubricate the body with this compound. All insects are afraid of clove oil, their smell is disorienting.

  • How can you ... Peacefully live with them ... Of course, they eat caterpillars from cabbage ... But they drill holes in the house ... I would relocate them all to a good woman ... This year they bit me, there wasn’t less than 11 bites, of course everything was smeared with phenethyl ointment from bites, but still it hurt a lot and now the bite places are sore, more than a week has passed ... But the wasps were etched with mosquitoes from wasps and hornets, but they again arrive, in the summer we fight once a lot...

  • A can of diclofos will save from wasps. Well or something like that. And on a bitten place drip citric acid. I tried it myself, it works.

  • Yes, they are not peaceful animals !!!! My daughter (7 years old) the other day was bitten by a wasp - she just pinned and stung. Her knee was double-bloated, terrible swelling and purulent inflammation. Apparently, she brought the infection with her sting, we spent two days in intensive care, she was injected with an antibiotic intravenously and still continue to take the strongest antibiotic. Whoever said that to destroy them - barbarism - right now, tear the fuck !!!!!!!!
