Important rules that guarantee success in killing ticks

When planning a vacation in a country house, you need to take care of a lot: from a first-aid kit with a full set of first-aid equipment to a folding chair, which you will probably need when fishing. At the same time, the site itself requires proper preparation, and the destruction of ticks on it is an essential event. After all, it is very important to protect yourself, and your loved ones, and pets. How to do it right?

Tick extermination

How to establish the presence of ticks?

Ticks in the suburban area are a common phenomenon, but still, before applying chemicals, it is advisable to make sure that there are parasites. The method that helps to identify them is very simple and does not require the use of any special devices. You will need a regular waffle towel and a wooden stalk.
Now you should wait for the most favorable conditions for the search for ticks - dry, clear weather. This is best done in the morning, but not too early, the best option is 9-10 hours, when there will be no dew. We construct from our simple set the “white flag” and stretch it along the grass growing on the site - if there are parasites, then several individuals will certainly remain on the fabric. Was the test result positive? - So, it's time to think about how to get rid of ticks on the site.

Gentle fighting methods

If the territory on which processing should be carried out is small, then in this case it is quite possible to do without the use of acaricides and get a positive result. But remember that this will require not only perseverance, but also a lot of effort.

So, how are such events held.

  1. First of all, you should briefly trim all the vegetation. Then we take the device with which we previously detected ticks, and again, but more thoroughly we walk through the grass. This procedure must be performed daily for 10-15 days. Each time you will collect a certain number of parasites on a waffle towel, gradually reducing the number of their colony. With due persistence and regularity of this event, you can significantly reduce the risk of trouble associated with meeting with these bloodsuckers.

On a note! One hundred percent removal of ticks from the site when using this method is not expected. But since they are sedentary creatures that prefer to wait for the approach of a potential host, it is likely that you will be able to remove a fairly large number of them!

  2. You can also scare away ticks from the site and again without harmful chemicals. And plants can help in this, in this case chamomile. Such varieties of chamomile, as Caucasian, Dalmatian and Persian, incorporate a natural insecticide - pyrethrin, and therefore are repellents for bloodsuckers and thereby provide reliable protection. Plus, by planting this plant, you can give the site a more aesthetic and very attractive appearance.

But do not forget that such destruction of ticks in the area may be ineffective or have a short-term effect. What is the reason for this? In most cases, with location peculiarities - if there is a forest belt nearby, where there are usually a lot of blood-sucking parasites, then they will come to the “clean” territory again and again. Their peddlers are usually animals, such as rats, mice, stray cats and dogs.

Selection of chemicals

The fight against ticks in a vast territory and with a large number of them should be carried out already with the help of industrial means. Unfortunately, such drugs can not be called absolutely safe for other life forms, but at the same time they cope quite well with the bloodsuckers themselves.

So, what can be chosen for acaricidal treatment from ticks?

  1. Pyrethroid-based drugs. Such funds today are most popular among summer residents and are used more often than others. This is due primarily to their low toxicity, and with proper use such acaricides not capable of harming either humans or animals. In addition, the substances of the pyrethroid series after a certain period of time quickly dissolve in air.

Important! But here it should be remembered that some of them are toxic to bees and fish, which does not allow their use during the flowering period of plants, as well as in close proximity to apiaries and ponds!

  2. Organophosphorus insecticides. This group contains drugs that are in no way inferior in effectiveness to previous drugs. However, they are more dangerous - if they come into contact with mucous membranes and exposed areas of the skin, such products cause serious damage to health, even if there was contact with their fumes.
  3. Preparations based on DDT. The most effective in terms of the destruction of ticks, but at the same time the most dangerous. Such products are very persistent, and if you use them often in large quantities, they will accumulate in the ground. As a result, everything that grows on the site will be poisoned and can no longer be used as food. It is extremely undesirable to use such tools for combating ticks where there are any cultivated plants - only outside the suburban area, for example, for treating the nearby forest belt.

Thus, it becomes obvious that the treatment of ticks with pyrethroids is the most justified in terms of safety. They can be used to destroy bloodsuckers, not only in the gardens, but also in all places of rest, including playgrounds. For the control of parasites in suburban areas, both natural and synthetic pyrethroid preparations are suitable. They do not accumulate in the ground and do not poison the vegetation. However, despite all the positive qualities, they should be used very carefully, according to the rules prescribed in the instructions - in this case the procedure itself will be as safe as possible, and the effect will be positive.

Basic rules for working with industrial facilities

It is allowed to use acaricides on the territory of any area, but it is advisable to divide the process into several stages - it is better to gradually process small zones, part by part, than immediately spray everything without exception.

It is recommended to start the fight against ticks in early spring, as soon as the snow melts. During this period, bloodsuckers will already leave their shelters, but at the same time their activity will be still minimal. Spraying is carried out first around the perimeter of the site, then rest areas and paths along which you usually make movements are processed with special care. No less actively, it is also necessary to treat bushes and tall grass.

What drugs are most popular today? Among those:

  • "Taran" is an insect-acaricidal aqueous emulsion with contact-intestinal action. After application, it remains active for 2 months, due to which it often ensures the destruction of hatched larvae without the need for re-processing.
  • Samarovka is a contact-intestinal insecticide with a wide spectrum of action. It has been working at open-air facilities for 4-6 weeks, in residential and non-residential premises for about 4 months.
  • "Acaritox" is an insecticaricidal wettable powder. It has a residual effect: in natural biotopes from 1 to 1.5 months. Effective in areas that are located in the vast forest.
  • "Force Site" - has a strong insecticidal and acaricidal effect. Designed for indoor processing and works against a wide range of pests. After application on the surface, it provides protection for 4-6 weeks.
  • "Tsifoks" "- an insecticide and acaricide for the destruction of ticks in household plots, cottages and gardens. Requires reuse two weeks after the first treatment.

Important! Tsifoks is not intended for use in areas occupied by vegetable, berry and fruit crops, as well as playgrounds and apiaries!

  • "Sipaz-Super" - used for disinfestation in residential and non-residential premises. It has a contact, intestinal and systemic effect.
  • "Alfatrin" - is intended for the destruction of ixodid ticks at objects for various purposes.

All these funds are on sale in many hardware stores.

On a note! Chemicals that have a liquid form of release are more effective in controlling ticks than granular ones!

Despite the fact that in general, working with modern acaricides is safe, you should not jeopardize your own health and neglect the recommendations regarding the use of personal protective equipment. Remember that you are dealing with toxic substances, from which it is imperative to protect the skin, mucous membranes and the respiratory tract.

Any manipulations with acaricides must be carried out in personal protective equipment. The finished working solution is poured into a knapsack spray and treated with its territory. Spraying is sometimes repeated two to three times per season.

Compulsory agricultural technology

The following agricultural activities will allow you to get a positive result from treatment from ticks on the site, fix it and help prevent re-infection. Thus, you will provide reliable prevention and minimize the possibility of meeting dangerous bloodsuckers.

  1. With each new season, do not forget to inspect the territory.
  2. It is advisable to enclose the site with a net, which will prevent the penetration of potential peddlers of mites: rodents, as well as stray dogs and cats.
  3. Regularly cut off unnecessary grass, deadwood, and shrubs, then burn them outside your summer cottage. The same goes for fallen leaves and plant debris, which usually cover beds after harvesting.
  4. Do not store different rubbish in the territory and try to get rid of unnecessary things - in such places ticks start up especially often.
  5. If possible, then use sawdust or gravel as an additional protection against bloodsuckers. Of these materials, an embankment is usually made around a meter wide site, and it copes quite well with its task.
  6. Lawns and flower beds should be well-groomed, it is advisable to use special fertilizers in these places, which will not only ensure normal growth of plants, but will also prevent the appearance of parasites.
  7. The most active and dangerous ticks become by mid-summer.And if until this moment it was not possible to completely get rid of their site from them, you should constantly inspect your clothes and body, especially after walking.

As long as the ticks are on the site, it is advisable to move along it in clothes made of dense materials that will not allow the pest to come into contact with the skin. It is better to keep animals at this time in the house or to arrange for them a temporary enclosure in a safe place (where there is no vegetation).

In addition, at the initial stage of tick destruction, clothing should be regularly treated with special repellents. Such drugs will deter parasites and provide additional protection. Plus, with their help you will not allow the penetration of "uninvited guests" into the house.
