We select a remedy for wasps: a review of effective insecticides and alternative drugs

Many people believe that a cure for wasps must certainly be highly toxic and have a pungent odor. This is partly true, but far from always such drugs can help solve the problem of an unpleasant neighborhood. For example, when stinging insects fly on a site without building a nest nearby, you will need a bait whose aroma will not scare away wasps, but, on the contrary, attract them. What tool to choose in each case and how to apply it so as not to harm your own health?

Wasp

Types of funds from wasps

To begin, let's figure out what drugs are used to combat wasps. These include:

  • Insecticidal aerosols - means sold in small containers and completely ready for use.
  • Insecticide concentrates - before use, they must be diluted with water to a certain concentration, and then used in the form of sprays. Funds from this group are characterized by cost-effectiveness and versatility, since they can be used both to destroy nests and to create trap baits.
  • Poisoning gels from insects and glue traps - they are used in most cases from cockroaches, but they are also applicable in the fight against wasps.
  • Folk remedies - such can be based on flammable substances or natural components.
  • Powder dusts - they are dissolved in water or added to the poison bait.

In this case, the bait can also be divided into two types. Some will be designed to destroy adults. They include high-speed components. For example, a poisonous substance is added to a fermented jam or sweet syrup, and after such a meal, wasps will soon die.

Other lures should not work too fast, as insects must not only have time to eat themselves, but also take the poisoned treat to the nest, where it will be divided between the uterus and young larvae.

How to choose a drug?

As mentioned above, everything is decided by the current situation.

If a hornet’s nest was found on the balcony, in the house or in the summer cottage, then in this case you will need a tool that can quickly work against all individuals: the uterus, adult insects, and larvae. At the same time, it should be as safe as possible for the processor itself. In this situation, the choice should be stopped on fast-acting insecticides and immediately after their application proceed to the mechanical destruction of the nest.

Important! If you find a wasp nest in your house or on the site, you should not hesitate. One day, insects can perceive you as a potential enemy and attack, as they say, without warning. And since their bites sometimes lead to intoxication, and if there are many wasps, then to a fatal outcome, it is necessary to destroy the nest found as soon as possible!

Summing up, we can identify the basic requirements that must be met against hornet's nests located in close proximity to your house or right in the apartment. This is a high speed of poisoning activity, ease of use, which will avoid unforeseen delays in processing, and low toxicity to humans.

If you noticed wasps that fly to your site just to find a source of food, but are not going to build a nest, then you need to act differently. You will need a bait, on which insects will not only fly, but also feed on it. Therefore, the poisonous additive should not have a deterrent smell that can interrupt the taste and aroma of the bait itself.

Important! When choosing a remedy for wasps that will be used in a country house or garden, preference should be given to those options that are characterized by safety both for crops growing on the site and for all its inhabitants.

Of course, choosing an effective remedy for wasps is much less common than, say, a drug for cockroaches or bugs, but today this is not a problem. In many hardware stores, insecticides are available in a wide range. It is only necessary to make the right choice for each specific case.

Insecticides

When considering insecticides against wasps, one should focus exclusively on modern developments that have a wide spectrum of action. And among the proposed range in practice, the following drugs show good results.

  • "Karbofos" - is in an affordable price category and is quite safe. It has two forms of release: liquid concentrate and powder. In both the first and second cases, the drug must be diluted in water before use.
  • "Delta Zone" is another concentrated insecticide that is highly effective against wasps. It has a very faint smell, and therefore it can well be used in the manufacture of poisoned baits.
  • "Executioner" - a broad-spectrum insecticidal agent that can help in the destruction of wasps. To prepare the poison you will need no more than three bottles, and this is enough to completely eliminate the problem.
  • Tetriks is a Dutch development that is recommended for use exclusively by pest control personnel. Highly toxic, has a pungent odor, but it works very quickly and effectively.
  • Preparations based on chlorpyrifos. This group includes: “Sinuzan”, “Get”, “Tzipi-Lux”, “Agran”, “Fosban”, “Ksulat”, Dursban ”,“ Dobrohim-micro ”, etc. These funds are diluted according to the instructions and used in fight against wasps.

Use cases

Consider the most effective ways to deal with wasps, which involve the use of chemicals.

  • Get-based bait. Since this insecticide has a slight smell, wasps will be happy to eat a treat based on it. Moreover, this recipe has been repeatedly tested in practice and, according to reviews, in most cases gives a positive result. First you need to prepare the foundation. Her role may be fermented kvass, jam or regular beer. Add about 100 ml of chemical per liter of base, mix, pour the resulting mixture into plastic bottles and place them near the places of accumulation of insects. In this case, it is desirable to initially cut the bottles into two parts, placing the upper part with the neck down to the bottom. It is very convenient to use the finished product from wasps in nature.
  • Get to destroy the nest. We dilute the contents of one bottle (100 ml) in two liters of water, then pour the prepared solution into a large plastic bag and sprinkle on a hornet’s nest. Moreover, it is recommended to do this at night, when the activity of insects is reduced. The neck of the package must be quickly sealed with tape or attached to a flat surface. After two to three days, the trap can be removed.

Advice! If the nest is located in a hole or in a hollow, you just need to fill it with the finished solution and plug the outlet with a cloth soaked in the same tool!

  • To destroy the aspen nest, it is quite possible to use Karbofos instead of the Get drug. A poisoning solution is prepared from 100 ml of a liquid concentrate diluted in a liter of water. Use according to a similar scheme. It is also allowed to simply spray the found nest with a working emulsion. Just remember that in this option you will have to use the concentrate repeatedly. Karbofos is not suitable for preparing baits, as it has a very pungent odor that only scares off insects.
  • Aerosol insecticides such as Dichlorvos, Clean House, Raptor, and Combat. They are also used to destroy wasp nests. First, the product is sprayed into a large plastic bag, then put it on the discovered nest and tightly knotted. The same means can be used for spraying the nests, only one treatment will only destroy a certain part of the colony. Therefore, as in the previous version, several approaches will be required. And remember that it is necessary to carry out this procedure in personal protective equipment, since frightened wasps will become very aggressive, and with a high degree of probability they will attack.
  • “Lambda Zone”, “Executioner”, etc. For starters, a piece of meat is hung near the aspen nest and left for a couple of days, so that the insects get used to it and fly to feed without fear. After the specified time, the meat should be processed with one of the modern insecticides and returned to its original place. Wasps continue feeding and are poisoned by the toxic components of the chemical. In this case, under a poisoned bait, it is necessary to put a bucket filled with water. So weakened individuals are guaranteed to die and at the same time the birds visiting the site will not be able to be poisoned by poisonous insects.
  • "Otos" - a ready-made poison bait for wasps, which includes both a sweet component and an insecticide. You can use it immediately after purchase without any additional manipulations.

Folk remedies

You can prepare any of the remedies for wasps offered below at the cottage with your own hands. At the same time, there are quite a few such recipes, but it is worth noting that such solutions show much less effectiveness than chemical preparations.

  1. Amanita - a poisonous mushroom that can be found in the nearby forest, is often used in the fight against wasps. However, first you need to cook it properly. We take three mushroom caps and cut them into small pieces. The resulting mass is mixed with 100 ml of liquid honey and diluted all in a glass of water. We put on fire and cook no more than five minutes. We remove the product from the stove, let it cool, pour it into cans and place it in places where there is an accumulation of insects.
  2. Hot pepper - this product is more affordable than the previous one, since you can purchase it at any supermarket. It is also simpler to use. We connect the pods of pepper into bunches and hang them near the nest of insects. The smell of chili will scare away wasps, and soon they will leave their homes. However, it should be borne in mind that a quick result in this option should not be expected. It will take more than one week to completely get rid of wasps.
  3. A bucket of water is one of the simplest and at the same time the best remedies for wasps. Pour ordinary tap water into the bucket - it should be enough to completely cover the nest. Carefully approach the dwelling of insects, raise a bucket, immersing the entire hornet's house in water. We support the bottom of the bucket with a ladder or wooden beam and leave for several hours.

Important! It is necessary to think over a method that will allow to fix a bucket of water at the required height in advance, so that at the most crucial moment not to spoil the course of the whole procedure!

  4. Kerosene or gasoline - the hornet’s nest should be carefully poured over the selected substance, then set on fire. And since the house of insects is built of wood material that they processed into the finest paper, it will burn very quickly. But it is obvious that this method can only be used in situations where the nest is located outdoors. At the same time, it’s not out of place to have a fire extinguisher on hand and in case of a threat of flame spread to surrounding plants, be able to use it.
  5. Car oil is not the most environmentally friendly way to get rid of wasps, but it is quite effective. Engine oil is enough to just pour a nest, wait for a while until all the individuals die, remove it and destroy it. It is extremely undesirable to use this substance when placing an insect house on a young tree for obvious reasons.
  6. Boiling water - it is used in cases where a hornet's nest was found in a hole. In this case, a sufficient amount of water must be collected - at least 8 liters, since if the hole is deep, then a smaller volume may simply not be enough.
  7. A sweet trap is another very simple folk remedy for wasps, which can be prepared from available ingredients. In the container, mix sugar syrup with beer (honey or jam with beer can be) and pour into plastic bottles, which were previously cut into two parts. We turn the upper part over and insert it into the lower one. We place traps where wasps fly most often.

Gels

As for insecticidal gels, then with their help it is quite possible to get rid of wasps both in an apartment and outside. These funds are good in that they do not require breeding and other additional cooking measures. This is a drug, which is completely ready to use, which will contain in its composition both attractive bait for insects and toxic substances. In addition, the gel will adhere to any surface and, thanks to its thick consistency, will remain active for a long time.

When using gel preparations from wasps, they are applied near the nest - around the entire perimeter on a tree trunk, wall, ceiling or on sheets of paper, which are then fixed in the immediate vicinity of the insect house. This treatment can significantly increase the likelihood that wasps will find the bait and begin to feed on it. At the same time, any insecticidal gels can be used: Fas, Absolut, Globol, etc.

Sticky traps

It is allowed to use pre-made sticky traps, such as “Trap”, “Alt” or “Apcoll”. Glue is applied to pieces of cardboard and a sweet bait is placed in the center, for example, a piece of melon, watermelon, banana, etc. Wasps will fly off into a sweet aroma and stick.

This tool works well from wasps in nature, however, it is not suitable for destroying a nest. The fact is that you will have to spend quite a lot of time on this, and only working individuals will be able to destroy, while the uterus and larvae will remain in the nest.

Things to Remember

Whatever remedy for wasps you choose, you must use it very carefully, since insects can quite actively protect their nest, attacking the offender with a swarm.

If a nest is detected, do not immediately try to get rid of it. It is better to wait for the night and only with its arrival take measures to destroy it. Wasps never sleep, but in the dark, their activity is significantly reduced. At the same time, insects should come to the house with an already diluted preparation, selected and absolutely ready for use with an aerosol and a large plastic bag, in which the nest can fit completely.

Despite the decreased activity of wasps at night, the procedure for destroying their nests should be carried out with gloves, a beekeeping mask and clothing made of dense material that will cover the entire body.

And do not rush to destroy these insects, if they do not cause you much trouble.Remember that they are your helpful partners in the fight against agricultural parasites. Wasps eat aphids, caterpillars and larvae of various pests, thereby saving growing on the site of culture from damage.
