Where does the mole in the house come from?

For many clean owners, the mystery is one question - where does the moth come from. Everywhere is perfect order and cleanliness, and the number of gray little butterflies is growing inexorably. But hygiene is a factor that helps prevent the appearance of cockroaches, but not a moth. These insects settle where there is a food supply, and it is most abundant just in elite houses and apartments.

Mole

First you need to establish what kind of moth is present in your apartment. Since insects similar in appearance, but different in their biology, enter the dwelling in various ways.

Food moth

To answer where it comes from food moth in an apartment, you need to analyze where you shop. It is most likely to bring the pest along with products from a regular store.

Important! Remember that a moth cannot arise on its own. Most often you bring it from the grocery store.

Another reason for the occurrence of food parasites is the storage conditions of food products, which can be violated both in the conditions of the factory warehouse and in the supermarket.

What foods do this pest like most? The list is quite wide:

  • plants' seeds;
  • cereal crops;
  • dried fruits and berries;
  • nuts
  • dry milk mixture;
  • flour;
  • dry pet food;
  • roots and fragrant dried herbs.

Advice! When visiting the store, try to bypass the food products listed above, which the seller sells at reduced prices. Quite often, it is the “promotional" product that is infected with the moth.

And the third factor is the neighboring kitchens in which the moth lives. It can get to you through ventilation systems, which spiderwebs disperse throughout the apartment building. But such a path has a very small percentage of probability, because, despite the presence of wings, this insect flies rather poorly.

Think, perhaps, on the ground floor of the house in which you live, there is a warehouse with groceries or a catering establishment, which can also affect the appearance of these insects. Indeed, it is large stocks of food that can provoke intensive reproduction of parasites.

And perhaps the moth fluttered into your house from the landing when you opened the door, although this is the least likely. In any case, if you have got food moth, it will be useful for you to get acquainted with the article: Moth in the kitchen - effective remedies.

How to prevent the occurrence?

It is impossible to be completely sure that this insect will not appear in your home. After all, it is enough to enter only one larva, as pretty soon there will be several parasites, and their ability to reproduce quickly will increase their number several times in a very short period of time. Therefore, in the first place, care should be taken about measures that will help prevent their reproduction.

And to protect your home from the invasion of these parasites, you should find out what attracts them.

  1. The presence of food. Without a saturation source, the mole is not able to multiply.If in your kitchen there are cereals in cardboard packages or cereals in plastic bags, then this is for parasites and there is a main reserve for existence.
  2. Shaded places. These pests try to avoid light, so they often hide in pantry rooms, lockers and nightstands. In such conditions, the insect is very comfortable and cozy, as there is free access to food and protection from prying eyes.
  3. Unventilated shelter. It is known that moths do not tolerate fresh air enough, therefore it prefers to settle in closed places where sunlight does not penetrate and drafts are excluded.
  4. Lack of saturated aromas. The smell of lavender, vinegar, tobacco, geranium and citrus can scare away flying parasites, so they try to be in places where they are completely absent.

Upon returning from the store do not forget to check the food. Carefully inspect the packaging and sprinkle cereals. If no moth is detected, then the products should be distributed in glass containers with tight-fitting lids or cloth bags that can be pre-soaked in salt water. Do not purchase nuts and cereals in large quantities, since most often it is in them that pests settle.

Clothes moth

Now you need to figure out how the clothes moth appears. To do this, it is worth remembering what things you have acquired lately. Most likely, these were:

  • carpets or bedspreads made of natural wool;
  • furniture upholstered in natural materials;
  • woolen, knitted clothes or things with a fur trim;
  • real fur shoes.

This list demonstrates the most likely causes of the moth. And, as mentioned earlier, for an insect it doesn’t matter whether these things are clean or dirty, ironed and neatly folded or randomly scattered. The main thing is that they are.

The larvae and pupae of this pest were already in items of clothing or furniture at the time of acquisition. When you brought them to your house, they began to multiply and move to other clothes in the closet.

Important! Remember that representatives of this species are capable of destroying both old and completely new things. Used clothes and furniture are more attractive to them, since the external material is already quite worn out and does not constitute a strong obstacle that can prevent you from getting to the internal filler.

The saddest thing is that the larvae of this insect can live in things that are for sale in luxury salons. And therefore, absolutely no one is immune from the acquisition of "harmful" things.
If you own a dog that has long shaggy hair, then a moth can come to your house with it. This is a rather unusual way for insects to enter a person’s home, but similar cases occur.

It is worth listing the most likely breeds of dogs on which the moth can "travel":

  • South Russian Shepherd;
  • tough dachshunds;
  • Giant Schnauzer;
  • bobtail.

As you can see, there are a lot of ways of penetrating various types of moths into your home. And if you notice that these parasites are starting to fly around the apartment, then urgent steps must be taken to stop the increase in their population.

How to prevent the occurrence?

Knowing where the moth comes from, you can weigh the situation and understand how to prevent its emergence and spread.

  1. All things brought into the apartment must be carefully inspected for the existence of parasites there. Even if you were not able to detect any signs of the presence of a moth, the thing should be hung out on the balcony for two or three days so that sunlight and fresh air kick out possible insects.

    Attention! Even if you make a purchase in an elite salon, inspect things right there. Particular attention will require both the external and internal surface of the product. Larvae can hide in a thick fur lining or trim or seams.

  2. Place a bottle of essential oil in a closet with clothes or scatter peel from citrus fruits. The harsh aroma will make the moth clean away from the source of the hateful smell.
  3. There are special repellers on sale. Sections from these pests can be attached to the wall or cabinet door and sprayed directly onto clothing.
  4. Before you put warm clothes for the summer period in a closet, you need to wrap them in newspaper and put several cigarettes full of strong tobacco in your pockets. Moth does not like these smells and will leave such a nesting place.
  5. In the cold season, things can be frozen directly on the balcony. Low temperatures will destroy the mole at all stages of its development.
  6. Socks, hats, mittens and other small items of clothing can be folded into an artificial heat source - a battery, and after a while the insects parasitizing on them will die.

Do not forget to ventilate cabinets and periodically shift things. Shelves and doors can be wiped with a solution of vinegar.

Remember that the speed of your reaction will depend on whether insects can multiply or they will have to leave your home in a few days. Do not waste time in vain, as this can lead to a significant increase in the number of moths, and do not forget about preventive measures.

  • Black root stood in the bank. It was about 2-3 years. The can was always closed. And once having opened, I saw a cobweb and a live larva. How did she get there, incomprehensible ?!
