Carpet flea attack

Carpet fleas settle in human homes and multiply rapidly. Their bites are rather unpleasant, can be the cause of allergies. The bite site then itches heavily. In addition, fleas are carriers of dangerous infections (hepatitis, encephalitis, etc.). Therefore, side by side with this insect is undesirable.

The appearance of fleas and signs of infection with them

Carpet fleas are medium-sized. The length of their body with the head does not even reach 3 mm. The body of young individuals is black. Mature fleas become brownish.

Attention! There are a huge number of varieties of fleas, of which about thirty species can occupy a human dwelling.

They can crawl and jump, quickly migrating around the house. Females lay a huge number of eggs. The photo below shows how carpet fleas look.

The oral apparatus is a piercing-sucking type. If for some other species of insects (for example, mosquitoes) blood is needed only during the mating season, then fleas feed on it on an ongoing basis. How does a flea exercise a bite?

  • The insect is fixed on the skin of the victim.
  • When bitten, it releases an anticoagulating substance into the blood.
  • Sucks out the required amount of blood fluid.

After a meal, the size of the insect increases markedly. Domestic fleas feed on the blood of animals and humans.

For people who live in a dwelling whose previous owners kept pets, carpet fleas become a real problem. Coming out of the genital openings, insects quickly fill up new things, causing discomfort to residents with their regular bites.

Detecting the presence of pests in the house is easy. First, it’s usually easy to spot fleas jumping on the floor. Secondly, they leave bites on the human body - red, small, itchy spots, often with bruising. Thirdly, cats or dogs that live in the house constantly scratch themselves due to fleas and become restless.

Ways to enter the house

Many believe that the cause of the appearance of a carpet flea population in the house is pets. Pets actually carry fleas and flea eggs on their bodies. But jumping parasites can also settle in an apartment or a private house in which there are no animals. Insects are transported with clothes, shoes or enter the home in the following ways:

  • through the entrance, basement, ventilation shaft of an apartment building;
  • from sloppy neighbors;
  • using infected rodents.

Banal non-compliance with sanitary rules in the apartment contributes to the appearance, active reproduction of parasites.

Important! A dirty environment is the most convenient “base” for the wrecking activity of carpet fleas.

A favorable factor for the appearance of fleas in the home is also considered damp, lack of ventilation and sunlight in the room.

The principles of getting rid of jumping parasites

Since small pests cause significant harm to humans, you need to fight them. The fight will not be easy - carpet fleas deftly hide in the paths, genital crevices, behind skirting boards, in furniture upholstery. There females lay their eggs. Young individuals, together with adults, will soon leave the shelters in order to find a “victim” and food. They bite painfully, and attack both pets and humans. There is nothing else in cases where carpet fleas are found in the apartment, how to get rid of pests as quickly as possible.

Independent actions

  1. Initially, quarantine should be entered for the infected animal. It is isolated, treated with a means against fleas.
  2. They clean carpets and rugs with a conventional vacuum cleaner or steam generator. In this way, adult insects and nits are removed.
  3. For high-quality cleaning of rugs and paths, salt, baking soda mixed in the same proportion are used. The resulting powder mixture is sprinkled on the carpet surface, rubbed thoroughly. Leave for the night. In the morning you must actively vacuum the carpet. Remove the mixture of soda and salt with a vacuum cleaner
  4. They process the carpeting with one of the insecticides or with some means borrowed from the storehouse of folk wisdom.

Advice! You can use anti-flea shampoo for washing dogs for washing carpets.

  5. The floors are washed with a hot solution of laundry soap, kerosene liquid or a decoction of wormwood grass. Acetic solution can be used.
  6. Clothes on which carpet fleas can also settle are washed in a washing machine at the highest possible temperature. It is even advisable to boil things if the fabric allows it.

Specialists help

Sometimes you have to turn to the services of the sanitary service - when folk methods or classic insecticides do not work, as well as with the large-scale settlement of carpet fleas. Disinfectants use potent drugs (Biorin, Sinuzan, Empire, etc.), which will definitely save the house from fleas. After qualified treatment, a repeat procedure is usually not necessary.

Folk recipes

If you do not want to use aggressive chemistry in the house, you can try to destroy carpet pests using folk methods:

  1. Wormwood + tansy + eucalyptus. For the preparation of a potion that will help kill fleas, 2 tables. l wormwood is mixed with tansy, eucalyptus leaves (one table. l.). The dry mixture is poured into a glass of boiling water. Insist 10 hours. The mixture is sprayed with areas of flea accumulation.
  2. Wormwood + coniferous shavings. Dry mixes cover floors, upholstered furniture. Carpet fleas do not like the smell of these plants, and therefore quickly leave the house.
  3. Freezing. This method is not universal. However, if the fight against fleas occurs in the winter and it is possible to leave the room open, the technique can be an excellent alternative to chemical treatment.
  4. Ultraviolet. Rugs and rugs carry out under the hot sun. Eggs and fleas are sensitive to direct intense rays.

Unconventional methods are affordable, cheap. They are safe for people and pets, but adversely affect carpet parasites.

Chemistry Against Fleas

Chemical flea control requires great care. Poisons have a toxic effect not only on harmful insects. They have a bad effect on the well-being of a person. But in cases of ineffective folk methods, one has to resort to "heavy artillery."
