Tea tree oil and other essential oils from lice

Tea Tree Oil for Lice

Tea tree oil from lice began to be used relatively recently. The healing properties of this substance, in particular antibacterial, antiviral and fungicidal, quickly gained popularity.

It is not surprising that other useful abilities began to be attributed to the miracle remedy, for example, the ability to rid skin cutaneous parasites. Is this really so and are essential oils generally capable of destroying lice? Let's figure it out.

The principle of tea tree oil

Essential oils are often used as folk remedies for harmful insects. The principle of their effect is based mainly on intolerance by parasites of strongly smelling substances. This is explained by the fact that in most of them the main sensory organ is, as a rule, the sense of smell. The appearance in the air of a large number of aromatic molecules leads them to disorientation. In addition, the genetic memory of most parasites contains information about the dangers of all strongly smelling substances. Therefore, when the first signs of danger appear, they run as fast as they can, trying to leave the “bad” place as soon as possible.

Tea tree oil from lice should help in the same way, however, there are the following nuances:

  1. Lice do not tolerate an unstable temperature and prolonged hunger strike, so they can not escape from the human body.
  2. Even stunned by a strong aroma, they cannot lose their master, since they basically lead a sedentary lifestyle and spend most of the time in one place, clutching their legs tightly in their hair.
  3. Lice are covered with a fairly dense chitinous cover, which is able to protect the body of the parasite from the penetration of oil inside.
  4. These insects feed exclusively on blood, therefore they cannot poison themselves by tasting the poison “by taste”.

These circumstances suggest that the tea tree does not completely relieve lice. Only a slight short-term effect is possible.

Interesting fact! Lice can leave a person’s body only in one case - if he has died. Insects simply have nothing to eat, since blood circulation in the tissues stops and blood coagulates. In addition, the temperature of the corpse is not quite comfortable for lice and therefore they go in search of a new victim.

Methods of preparation and use

Despite the fact that the essential oil does not completely eliminate lice, it can still be used to weaken insects. Moreover, to enhance the effect, it is better to use it as part of other antiparasitic drugs. Consider several methods of preparation and use of anti-pedicule composition of tea tree oil and other similar aromatic agents.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea lice oil based on tea tree extract is most often used as part of the following substances:

  • pure ethyl alcohol or alcohol tinctures;
  • shampoos;
  • other essential oils;
  • anti-pediculosis drugs.

To prepare the alcohol composition, 50 g of alcohol is taken, 30 drops of essential oil are poured into it, everything is mixed and diluted with fifty grams of distilled water. The hair and scalp moistened with the resulting product overnight for a week. A more gentle way is to wash off the composition a few hours after exposure under a warm shower.

The use of oil as part of shampoos is more likely to be prophylactic in nature, however, in combination with mechanical combing, it gives good results. To prepare the product, 10 drops of the drug are mixed with 15 ml of any shampoo. Such a mixture is washed with head, allowed to act for several minutes, and then washed off with water. Wet hair is combed out with a frequent comb. It is advisable to carry out such a procedure at least 3-4 times until complete disposal of insects.

You can slightly enhance the effect of tea tree by mixing its preparation with another aromatic substance. For example, with clove oil. To do this, 4 drops of this product are mixed with 20 drops of the drug from tea tree extract and 50 ml of mineral water. The composition must be rubbed into the scalp every day until a positive result occurs.

Tea tree oil as part of other anti-pediculosis drugs is the most effective way, which gives guaranteed disposal of parasites. In addition, it helps to muffle the unpleasant odor that usually accompanies such products. Using it is easy enough, you just need to add a few drops of oil to the drug and use it in accordance with the instructions.

Lavender Oil

Lavender oil from lice is used as often as tea tree extract. It is used for preventive purposes and in combination with other control measures. The positive effect is due to the wonderful property of lavender to enhance the action of other aromatic substances. Therefore, it is most often used as part of such drugs as eucalyptus oil, tea tree, rosemary.

In its pure form, lavender oil from nits and lice helps poorly, but when applied to the scalp, it helps to heal wounds from scratching. It is also important that it prevents the multiplication of pathogens on the surface of the skin, and also mitigates itching, providing a calming effect. Lavender oil is used for lice in the same way as tea tree preparations.

Advice! To maximize the effect of the oil, the head is covered with a plastic cap. Under such a cap, the temperature on the surface of the skin rises several times, which also contributes to the destruction of insects.

Burdock essential oil

Burdock oil from lice also helps a lot. It contributes to the healing of the scalp, and also creates a protective film on it, which prevents the movement and nutrition of parasites. A big plus is that you can buy it at any pharmacy for mere pennies.

In order to use this drug, it is necessary to warm it to room temperature and apply it liberally to the hair. After this, the head is covered with a plastic cap and held for about an hour. The procedure is repeated for three days. For prevention, you can reduce the course to once a week.

Anise oil

Anise oil from lice acts in a similar way. It envelops the surface of the skin and hair, interfering with the normal functioning of insects. It also has a slight deterrent effect and inhibits the development of larvae.

The use of this tool is quite easy. The oil is applied to the head for 1-2 hours, and then washed off. It can also be added to shampoos at every wash, as well as mixed with pediculosis chemicals.

One of the positive properties of anise oil is its ability to inhibit the development of microbes and enhance hair growth. It is also believed that regular use of this tool in the composition of masks favorably affects the condition of the scalp.The disadvantage of this tool is its high price and low efficiency against parasites.

Interesting fact! The tea tree got its name for the dark, amber color of the infusion from its leaves, which is very similar to tea leaves.

Contraindications and side effects

Tea tree oil, like all essential substances, has its contraindications. In particular, it is not recommended to use it in the following cases:

  • with individual intolerance and a tendency to allergic reactions;
  • during pregnancy and lactation;
  • before the age of six in children.

Restrictions on the use are explained by the toxicity of the drug when used internally. For example, even a small amount of the drug when it enters the digestive tract causes its upset, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In some cases, hallucinations, cramps and severe headache may occur. In young children, oil often causes an allergic reaction, rash, itching and peeling of the skin.
