How to get rid of annoying midges

Fruit midge

With the arrival of steady summer heat, apartments are filled not only with sunlight, but also with small flying midges. Moreover, in most cases, they do not pose a direct threat to humans, however, some discomfort is still felt. Some are able to spoil food, others destroy indoor plants, and some inflict very painful bites. And at the same time, sometimes it is necessary to work hard to remove such insects. Let's figure out how to get rid of midges and provide prevention of its reappearance.

Sources of infection

Where does midge come from? Pups prefer high humidity, and therefore often start up in such conditions. In the wild, they live in swampy lowlands, near ponds, as well as in areas where compost pits are located. They find increased humidity in residential premises and, depending on their species, can safely exist in almost any room where the necessary microclimate will be. It can be a kitchen, and a bathroom, and a bathroom, and even a living room in which there are potted plants.
In the summer, midges bark into houses right from the street through open windows and windows, and if insects find suitable conditions, they will certainly remain, and for a long time. In addition to the above factors, an ordinary garbage bag that was not removed from the apartment on time may become attractive to them.

Midges in the house

Among other midges, the most frequent guest in our homes is the fruit midge. It is absolutely safe for humans, but it multiplies very quickly and gradually begins to spoil vegetable and fruit stocks.

On a note! According to experts, fruit midges are not capable of transmitting any diseases, however, despite this, there is still harm from them!

In one clutch of fruit midges there can be about 20 eggs, of which young insects appear after a short period of time. Moreover, just a few hours after leaving the eggs, these individuals become sexually mature and continue to actively increase the number of colonies.

Fertilized females lay their eggs, usually under the peel of soft and overripe fruits. Sometimes masonry can be found in decaying organics, which explains the presence of midges in gutters and sewer systems. Having settled in the house, these insects are in no hurry to fly away. But this is not only due to the presence of a constant source of food. The fact is that fruit midges fly very slowly and are unable to travel long distances.

On a note! If you leave fruit midges without a nutrient medium, they immediately rush to search for suitable products. At the same time, weakened individuals will simply die.

The midges are slow, but very attentive, and therefore they quite clearly record the slightest movements and immediately fly away when danger is approaching

On a note! An interesting fact is that fruit flies prefer not only rotten fruits, but also various sweets and alcohol. This feature of nutrition is often used in the selection of funds to combat these insects!

Fighting fruit midges

If fruit midges are wound up in your apartment, then, first of all, it is necessary to change the conditions. The main enemies of these small insects are cleanliness and dry climate. And in the case when the distribution center is small, it is not difficult to eliminate it - it is enough to carry out a general cleaning, take out the garbage and hide (in the refrigerator) the fruits. However, if the midge has settled in you for a long time and managed to greatly breed, then in this case you will have to resort to the help of special compounds. And basically they are prepared from improvised means.

Instructions for the destruction of midges are as follows.

  1. First of all, we find the source of distribution and immediately destroy it. We discard all found infected products. It is important not to spare the spoiled supplies and to dispose of absolutely everything. Remember that even a small rotten fruit can be a pest.
  2. All “clean” supplies should be washed and removed from the table. Fruits can be put in the refrigerator, and the vegetables hidden in a paper bag, or at least covered with thick paper.
  3. It is necessary to wash the dishes immediately after eating and do not leave leftovers on the table. In this case, the sink is also desirable to constantly keep clean, regularly getting rid of organics.
  4. A treat for midges is any sweet or sour medium. This list also includes homemade wine. Therefore, after drinking juices, compotes and other similar drinks, the glasses must be thoroughly washed and the bottles properly corked.
  5. Now you can proceed to additional events. Make sure that dishcloths and towels are always dry and clean. Immediately after eating, remove crumbs from the table, wash off sticky stains and other food debris that may be attractive to insects.
  6. As for the hob surface, it should also always be clean. To do this, at least once a week, it must be thoroughly washed with a special tool that will help remove both sticky plaque and stains of fat.
  7. Garbage, especially in the summer, should be taken out at least twice a week. If this is done less often, then in this case it will not work to quickly get rid of midges.

Among other things, it is advisable to install mosquito nets on windows. A good extra measure would be a fan located opposite the kitchen table or other place where the fruits are.

The best midge traps

To make an effective remedy for midges is quite possible with your own hands. Moreover, in this case, an ordinary adhesive tape will not bring the expected results. These insects must be caught in other ways.

  1. Banana-skinned trap. To prepare such a trap, a couple of bananas must be peeled and folded in a plastic bag or plastic bottle. Then we make several small holes in the container and set a trap near the source of insect distribution. Moshkara will flock to an attractive smell, but will not be able to get out of the trap. After two days, the package will be filled with a significant part of their population. It should be thrown away and, if necessary, made a new trap.

On a note! Midges cannot track the sources of fresh air, and therefore in their chaotic flight they simply will not find openings for exit!

  2. Cone. For the manufacture of this trap, any fruit and vegetables are suitable. It can be slices of apple, pear, citrus and even potatoes. We put the bait in a small jar and insert a cone from plain paper into the neck. Cats will fly on an attractive smell, but again they will not be able to get out.In such a trap, it is very convenient to monitor the size of the "catch", as well as its behavior. Once every two to three days, the jar needs to be cleaned and fresh bait put into it.
  3. Liquid traps. The main bait in such a trap can be honey dissolved in water, jam, any juice, beer, wine, or simply sugar syrup. The selected liquid is poured into saucers and placed near the habitat of insects. As a result, all the hungry midges simply drown. Such a trap can be improved by covering it with a plastic bag and making several holes in it. In this case, it is advisable to put several pieces of spoiled fruit into the liquid. Thanks to such a "roof" insects will sink much more actively.

Moshkara in flower pots

Lice can be found on indoor plants. These are small insects called mushroom mosquitoes. They are also attracted to humidity, and therefore they start up mainly when the substrate is waterlogged. How to get rid of such midges in the apartment? In this case, do the following:

  • Since the development of eggs and larvae in the best way occurs in moist soil, first of all, watering of potted plants should be reduced.
  • With a large accumulation of parasites, it is desirable to use insecticides, which can be both chemical and biological. In the first case, it is necessary to choose funds based on bifentrin, lyabda-cygalotrin, cyfluthrin or permethrin, in the second - on natural components: strains of live bacteria or nematodes. In this case, the latter are realized in the form of granules or tablets.

Important! When mushroom mosquitoes appear, special attention should be paid to the proper watering of plants. If this step is neglected, small midges will reappear in the apartment!

Small midges in the sewers

As mentioned above, midges can start even in the sewer system. This happens in cases where the remnants of food regularly get into the sink. Organics lingers on the walls of sewage pipes and small midges quite successfully develop in it.

To get rid of prolific insects, first of all, you need to do a thorough cleaning in the bathroom and in the kitchen. You should also eliminate all sources of stagnant water and take care of the integrity of the pipes. To clean the sewer, use special tools - these can be gels, liquid or granular preparations. Some will be based on chemicals, others on viable bacteria, and in any case, whatever tool you choose, it will give a positive result in the fight against midges.

Recommendation! In severe blockages, only chemicals must be used. Such preparations are guaranteed to cope with the cleaning of drains and pipes, and will do so in record time!

If midges bite

Most midges that start in apartments in the summer are not able to directly harm a person. However, in summer cottages, as well as in places that are close to various water bodies, other midges live - the vulture. These insects are bloodsucking, and therefore often cause rather painful bites.

In order to prevent such midges from entering your home, you must keep the windows closed or install mosquito nets. At night, you can use various fumigators from blood-sucking insects, and in the afternoon protect the skin with repellent sprays and ointments.

To summarize

As you can see, getting rid of midges in an apartment is not difficult, and with timely detection of the source of their distribution, it is easy to do. If insects were found in the kitchen, then in this case it is enough to carry out proper cleaning and try to constantly maintain cleanliness. And with a large accumulation of parasites, you can use homemade traps.

In addition, garbage should be removed more often, especially when there are a lot of food debris in the bucket. And if you are going to leave the apartment for a long time, then it must be as clean as possible.Remember that just one rotten fruit left on the table can become a source of active reproduction of a whole colony of these insects.

So that midges do not start up in potted flowers, adjust their watering and constantly make sure that the substrate is not too waterlogged and that water does not stagnate in pallets.

These tips will help make your home unattractive for annoying midges, it will always be clean and comfortable.
