How to get rid of June jungle?

June Khrushchev is a pest, the period of activity of which falls at the beginning of summer. It can be attributed to the relatives of the well-known May beetle: they have a similar structure, but different color and size. June khrushch is inferior to the last in size, but no less harmful: an adult insect eats up the foliage of trees, shoots of plants, and does not disdain the color of cereals. Its larvae develop in the soil and feed on plant roots.

Pest Description

The adult beetle reaches a length of up to 19 mm. The color of the carapace and the head is dark brown, and the legs, antennae, and fringing of the chest shield are yellowish-red. Elytra lighter, their color closer to yellow. They shine, and 4 stripes separate them.

The entire chest of the beetle is covered with long hairs of a light shade, on the abdomen there are also hairs, but shorter. Antennae consist of 9 segments.

The female can be distinguished by shorter and rarer hairs on the body.

Eggs laid by a female June khrushchev: white, almost round, slightly elongated. For masonry, females prefer to choose abandoned or virgin areas overgrown with wild cereals.

Head of larvae of red color, with shine, without eyes. The body is white, curved, 3 pairs of legs are located on it. The length of the larva can reach 52 mm.

The pupa is light in color, but before the release of an adult, it begins to darken.

Distribution area

You can see the common bad (the second name of the pest) in almost all of Europe, Russia (with the exception of northern taiga), Central Asia and the Caucasus. The beetle feels best near coniferous trees, in sandy soils, since its larvae cannot tolerate dampness. He does not like the June Khrushchev and lowlands, and it is impossible to meet him in such places.

Development phases

Beetles are activated in June or July, and their years last up to 1.5 months.

The behavior of the pest depends on the habitat. So, living in the forest in the daytime, eat leaves of trees or needles. Here they choose not only trees, but also thickets of tall grass, shrubs. Inhabitants of the imago steppe prefer to hide in the soil during the day. Their activity is activated only at dusk, but continues all night. Males, as a rule, arrange years, and females wait for them on plants.

Mating beetles begins a week after additional nutrition. Females lay eggs in the soil, each capable of producing from 20 to 30 pieces. The period of development of the embryo depends on temperature and environmental conditions, and in different regions it takes different times: from 4 to 6 weeks.

The larva lives in the upper layers of the soil, eats the roots of plants. Wintering leaves in the deep layers of the soil. The larva hibernates once or twice.

The pupation period begins in early May, and at this time the larva rises closer to the surface, to a depth of about 15 cm. Pupation takes from 1 to 2 months, so some adults can appear in July.

Harm

Nekhrushch ordinary can cause serious damage to the garden. Both adults and larvae are dangerous. Beetles in the process of feeding damage the foliage of fruit trees, pine needles, raspberry bushes.Larvae eat the roots of young trees (maple, pine, ash, many fruit trees), rose bushes, currants, gooseberries and others: cereals, vegetables, melons.

Pest Management Methods

A colony is not bad enough often coexists with other pests, for example, May bugs, and their combined actions increase the damage to the garden. In order to prevent outbreaks of a serious increase in the number of beetles, it is recommended to observe it during the summer and notice the period of emergence of adults.

To find out the number of pests, in the first month of summer, soil excavations are carried out and the population density of the larvae is studied. The same actions are recommended to be carried out at the end of summer, in August.

Methods for destroying a bug

The process of protecting the garden and the vegetable garden from June’s crony must be complex: it is necessary to protect the roots of young plants with organophosphorus compounds, treat the soil with special means, destroy adult beetles during the summer, using chemical preparations.

Popular methods of combating Khrushchev

It is possible to destroy on the site of larvae of the non-crawling ordinary by treating the infected soil with herbal infusions:

  1. A bucket of water is poured into 500 g of sunflower flowers or 1 kg of dried acacia bark. Leave for 3 days, filter.
  2. ½ bucket of poplar leaves pour a bucket of boiling water, put on fire for a quarter of an hour. Leave the broth for 3 days.
  3. 300 g of wormwood (leaves, stems) are combined with 200 g of ash, a bucket of hot water is added to the mixture, and insisted for several hours before use.

An alternating iodine solution and husk infusion will give a good result:

  • 15 drops of iodine are added to a bucket of water, this soil is watered around the plants;
  • 100 g of garlic or onion husks are poured with a bucket of warm water, covered with a lid, left for 3 days, and then diluted in half with water and water the plants under the root.

Traps

If at a certain place in the garden there is a large accumulation of June jungle, simple traps will help reduce the number of beetles:

  1. Adhesive tape against flies is glued to the board or any other surface, installed in the place where the most pests.
  2. Adult beetles can be caught using devices built from a plastic glass or bottle - the container is filled with water or kvass diluted with jam, placed next to insects. Beetles that have fallen into the water from the bottle are removed and destroyed daily.

Chemicals

To significantly reduce the population of non-infectious larvae, you can use special preparations: Pochin, Antikhrushch, Zemlin, Aktara, Bazudin and others.

Important! They can be safely used in areas with flowers, however, it is better to refuse to use on beds with vegetable crops.

Biological products

If the pest eats the roots of vegetable or fruit crops, it is best to deal with it with biological preparations - they cope with the task, without harming the future crop.

Among the most popular: "Metarizin", Kurkliai, "Nemabakt" and others.

Nitrogen

The increased content of nitrogen in the soil is detrimental to the cartilage. You can increase its concentration if you sprinkle chicken droppings or plant nitrogen-producing plants on the plot (beans, lupine, white clover).

It is advisable to conduct a deep digging of the land in the areas of spread of the beetle, timely removal of weeds.

Only this approach can guarantee the protection of trees and plants from the attack of a pest.
