How to recognize a stink bug and get rid of a pest?

The stink bug is an insect that is widespread in Russia. Most often it can be found near ponds, and during the breeding season this bug can even be in your apartment. But it is not a parasite for humans, so when it is detected, you should not raise a panic in the search for an insecticide. It is enough just to throw it out the window and it will not return again.

Wood bug

How to recognize

The stink bug, it is woody, is painted in light green. The chitinous cover carefully hides the insect from enemies among the foliage and in the summer it is quite difficult to detect it with the naked eye. With the onset of autumn, the leaves change their shade, starting to play in saturated warm tones, and the bug does not lag behind - its shell acquires a brown hue and gives the insect the opportunity to further mask.

The tree bug has a rounded body shape with protrusions on both sides. This structural feature is characteristic of insects of the family of insects. The chitinous cover is quite hard, it serves as a protection against external influences. At the end of the back you can see folded wings that peek out from under the green shell and have a brown color.

Young hatching from eggs practically does not differ from adult individuals in their color and shape - they have the same light green cover and oval body. The only difference is the lack of wings. They appear only after the young individual reaches puberty. During this period, the larva manages to 5 times discard the old shell, which from time to time becomes too tight, and ultimately the body length can reach 15 mm.

Interesting fact! Not all larvae that have been born reach puberty. Most of them die, as some lack the strength to get out of the carapace during molting.

Features of existence

A green bug hibernates under the litter of fallen leaves. He digs deep beneath her and stiffens. Spring for him is a time of awakening. At this time of year, adults begin to mate and breed.

Despite the fact that adults still have wings, they are rarely used. This is due to the fact that it is very difficult for an insect to fly into the air due to its small span and insignificant lifting force. Therefore, it takes off only when it is sure that in front of it there is a rich meal.

The characteristic smell and damage to agricultural land are the main reasons why many disliked this insect. The bug gradually destroys the plants on which it is hiding, sucking out all the juice from its stem.

Interesting fact! For large shrubs, this insect is almost harmless. Only small brown spots on the leaves will indicate that there was a shield bug.

The stink bug is not too fastidious in food. He can eat the juice of many plants, tree leaves, grass, cereals and berries are suitable for him, especially he loves raspberries. In some cases, this parasite can be saturated even with the remains of insects that it finds under fallen leaves.

The characteristic smell of a bug

Wood bugs have a very strong sense of smell and smell their tribesmen by smell. And he begins to exude aroma when he feels the approach of danger.

On the back of the thyroid cephalothorax are special glands with odorous liquid, which he repels potential enemies. For other insects, it is a poison and can paralyze and even kill, but the bug itself can not suffer from it.

Why is this insect dangerous?

Since the main food of the green bug is plant juices, among which there are cultural plantings, it poses a serious threat to agriculture. Settling on seedlings, the insect begins to suck out liquid from them and after a while the plant loses its ability to bear fruit and dies. Bedbugs are able to destroy entire fields, causing huge losses to their owners.

After saturation, a tree bug injects saliva with a high poison content into the plant. This is what affects the quick death of a seedling. They always parasitize on those plants on which they lay their eggs. The average number of eggs laid reaches 40, but this value may vary depending on the type of insect.

In agriculture, stinks are poisoned with various toxic compounds, on which they quickly acquire immunity. In connection with this circumstance, manufacturers of insecticides are forced to constantly create new chemicals that will protect the fields from pests.

How to get rid of a shield bug?

In rural areas, stink bugs quite often fly into residential buildings. This may be due to several circumstances:

  • wildfire;
  • sharp cooling;
  • gust.

As you know, these insects are absolutely harmless to humans, but despite this, not everyone agrees to tolerate the presence of a "fragrant" guest in their apartment. And then the search for a means to destroy it begins.

Another thing is garden plots filled with bugs, for which these parasites pose a serious threat. There can be several methods of struggle.

  1. If in your garden a small number of stink bugs was detected, then they can be collected manually. Undoubtedly, this is not entirely convenient, since they are successfully masked, completely merging with the foliage. In addition, you will not be able to collect the eggs laid by the females, and after a short period of time the invasion will resume.
  2. Folk recipes can give a slightly better result, and their composition is absolutely harmless to humans. In financial terms, they are much more affordable than chemicals, and anyone can cook them in a short period of time;
    • peel the onion in such a quantity that 200 g of husk is obtained. Pour it with 10 liters of hot water and insist for 5 days. Strain the resulting infusion and spray it onto the plants infected with bedbugs using a spray gun. The procedure is repeated 2-3 times a day, every 5 days;
    • Dissolve 100 g of dry mustard in 500 ml of hot water. Stir and add another 9.5 liters of water. Using a spray gun, spray the mixture onto the plants;
    • at different points in the garden to plant a plant called black cohosh, which is a very effective repeller for all types of bugs, including shield bugs.
  3. With a large number of tree bugs, industrial insecticides such as Chlorophos, Karbofos, Phosphamide should be used. They are quite effective against pests of crops, but they must be used carefully, putting on personal protective equipment.

To date, the stink bug has not yet been included in the list of dangerous insects, so there are no insecticides whose action is aimed at the destruction of this particular species. For a person, he also poses no threat. Be prudent and begin to exterminate insects only when their numbers begin to increase rapidly and pose a real threat to your garden plot.

  • Of course, I completely agree that bed bugs do no harm to humans, but for some reason this year in my house THERE ARE VERY MUCH. They are already like my friends: I “dress, put on shoes, go to bed, go to the toilet”, etc., etc. We have been living in the house for 8 years, and this is the first year such an invasion. It seems to me that some link in the biological chain has fallen. Perhaps earlier in our city in the Imereti Lowland of Sochi some birds stopped, which reduced the number of bugs. Of course there are a lot of them, not only from me, but throughout the city. It’s worth considering. I want to believe that it will get colder, and they will disappear; but we have a warm climate, winters may not exist Now I understand that you can’t do without poisons, but I don’t want to ... I’m for a natural cycle ......

  • I rest in Sochi, in the Sochi sanatorium of the same name in December 2015. And now in Sochi there was an invasion of forest bugs. I got a bug in my jeans, I put on jeans and ran for treatment and suddenly an unpleasant burning sensation. Until I ran to the medical building, until I found the bug and removed it, it took about 5 minutes. I went through the procedure and all the while felt uncomfortable, and in the room I found two spots with a small coin. One spot is a bruise and the other is bright rust. For five days there are no traces of a bite and poison, which allocated a bug. The spot is sore and itchy. In the inter HETE nothing of the sort found.

  • I totally agree with all the authors. I have a place in Georgia in Batumi called Cape Verde, this is near the famous botanical garden. So this year there really was an invasion of them in the apartment. All winter and spring I ran around with them with a vacuum cleaner. I did it three hundred times. the place where they were not in the house In the wardrobe bed in all the drawers with papers with utensils and even in the refrigerator I met them twice Just psychosis came like an invasion of locusts True they don’t bite, but it’s unpleasant to get used to them someday You’re crawling and you accidentally squeeze it and it’s stinky on the bed. Of course, they were in incredible quantities at all the neighbors. But I have a sunny side and they probably go into the window cracks and I think from the attic because all the time the gin from the bottle appeared on the ceiling Over the evening 20 pieces, you’ll definitely catch it, and tenacious devils just barely have enough of them. Well, when I read the reviews in Sochi, this happens and the city services don’t fight what to say about us. The truth is full of greenery and you don’t spray everything. I wanted to ask if someone hadn’t tried the curtains Are mosquito nets to sprinkle something that they are not crawling TC from the outside there is no sense in us through the day it rains, I trieddichlorvos to spray but nothing helps, but I won’t spray chemistry in the cabinets and drawers. It just seems to me that something needs to be spread or sprayed on the glass around them and how to breathe ourselves. In winter, we also open the windows when the sun. Even mosquito nets do not save, really they don’t there are such sealed windows there are wooden cracks Well, now it’s summer and it seems like they are gone or I caught them all but it’s not visible especially I ask someone to advise how in the fall when the cold starts to protect against them

  • He put on his helmet and this American stink turned out to be under it. I felt a pungent smell and quite a strong burning sensation in my hair exactly at the place where the bug released the secretion of his gland. He immediately rinsed his head with shampoo in the garage (it was good that I had everything for this, I was going to training). But even after that there was a burning sensation. After a couple of days, a stain and a crust formed on the head like a burn. In general, the booger is harmless until you touch it.

  • Friends, the same problem, stinkers go boarding my (glazed) loggia. In the kitchen and in another room on the windows of the grid, and they can not get through, just sitting on them. And on the pile of holes a lot, Sedna caught about 10 stinks. Advice to everyone - put nets on windows, this is a must! There will be a gap around the perimeter (between the grid and the window frame), seal this gap with transparent adhesive tape. And not a single stink will crawl through! Today I still stuck a seal on the loggia, the invasion stopped. Smelly like mosquitoes - look for a small hole / gap in the window there and dive.

    You can also get rid of annoying insects that bother with their smell without using chemical agents. After all, there is a mass of effective folk recipes to deal with them.

    The fact is that the natural analogue of some powerful chemical insecticides are substances - pyrethrins, which are contained in some plants of the aster family. Especially a lot of these substances are found in the pyrethrum plant, which is very similar to chamomile.

    Feedback:

    Always just used a camomile to scare bugs in the garden. Never used any chemistry and are very satisfied!

  • Anapa, Novorossiysk are just tin, there are not 10 but 100 of them, they climb into all the cracks and attack. I tried dichlorvos today, returned about 20 minutes later, the whole window was covered with these creatures. Now I will try all the means and write whether there was an effect

  • I live in the Veneto region of stinkers in Italy, millions are sitting right on the house, all the walls are strewn with them. From home, you throw them a few scoops per day. Hurry winter

  • Yes, this year in Georgia there’s a direct invasion. I was in Georgia in the summer, then I left for Turkey since I live there. I went home, unpack the bags and then I see that an uninvited guest has arrived with me? But here there are none. I have not met for 13 years. There is a tree by the window, let it out there, after some time again I found it in the apartment, on the chandelier. Autumn has come, I think it may have burned out in the chandelier. So no! Appeared again! Now we live together with him. If he survives the next trip, I’ll take him back, otherwise who will he talk to with ☺️ ...

  • Krasnodar region. We have 30 acres of a garden, from the end of July to November there was a terrible shaft of stinkers. I deduced that hens eat them (one chicken can feed up to 1,500 per day), released the hens into the garden, walked next to them and threw them on the ground with those they did not reach. They pecked with great pleasure, was afraid that they would burst from overeating ... But they did not burst, the next day they again asked to go to the garden for a "tasty treat". So we slightly reduced the number of bedbugs, but we need effective chemistry !!!

  • because, ladies and gentlemen, from our 21st century agricultural industry, with all the selection of chemistry, and in the cities, due to the lack of green areas, birds die. bugs fly wherever they want ...

  • And we have a summer cottage in the forest, there are a lot of birds, they mix the whole sweet cherry. But these bedbugs for the second year did not allow lilacs to blossom. I collect mechanically in a jar of water. I tried to use poison this year, even does not help.

  • I live on the 5th floor !!!!! I fought with 《Smelly》 2 years !!!! Once I smeared a wound with green stuff on my leg, and he just flew in, and I smeared his hop with green stuff and threw it out the window. In the evening I go out to the balcony and look, and my tagged one looks at me ???????.

    Found a simple, good and effective way:

    • Take a jar

    • Pour 1/3 of the water

    • Pour 1-1.5 tablespoon of sunflower oil

    Where suddenly I get it, I throw them into this jar and after 1.5 minutes they are no longer alive and they almost do not have time to ring. Used to catch hundreds per day ?. Now 10 pieces a week ?. It seems the livestock has reduced ??

  • There is an insecticidal chalk pencil MASHENKA on sale. Draw lines around the perimeter of the window on the balcony. From this MACHINE they die when they crawl.
