Beetle Invasion: Bronze Shallow Green and Methods of Combating It

A bright bug called “bronzovka green” is a typical representative of the category of forest insects. He loves the sunny edges, often migrates to gardens. Penetrating into residential buildings, it feeds on houseplants. Sometimes wrecking is significant. That is why bronze has to be fought.

Small bronze green

Features of the anatomy and vital activity of bronze

Relate bronze to the family of lamellar beetles. The subfamily includes 5 subspecies, individuals of which differ in appearance and area. The green bug is similar to the May bug, with which it is sometimes confused.

Distinctive features of the insect:

  • green with a metallic overflow color, which makes bronzes very noticeable, beautiful;
  • medium-sized, elongated forward and slightly tilted backward head, wide, oblong body;
  • the nature of the flight - the hard wings of bronze remain in the process of flight folded, and transparent thin at this time are released through the side recesses.

Interesting! Despite the impressive size of the body (varies from 18 to 20 mm), these beetles quite freely and easily feel themselves in the air.

Departure period begins in May, lasts 2 to 4 months. Increased activity in dry heat is observed. On cloudy days, beetles still sit on branches. At night, they prefer to bury themselves in the ground.

Females are smaller than males. Females lay their eggs in anthills, compost or dung heaps, dilapidated soft wood. Larvae differ in large parameters; they are thick and large. Shedding occurs twice. Movement is carried out on the back, because they do not have claws.

How do bronzes damage plants?

Colorful shiny beetles are gluttonous. The green bronze, after being introduced to a garden plot, garden or house, begins to actively spoil the flora growing there.

Beetles eat:

  • inflorescences of fruit crops;
  • decorative flowers;
  • fruits of various fruit specimens;
  • cabbage, carrot ovaries, seeds;
  • beetroot leaves, etc.

Important! Bugs are able to mercilessly eat out stamens and pistils, which are hidden inside the inflorescences. As a result, pollination, seed ripening and fruiting of the crop are endangered.

Decorative variants of plants, when damaged by bronze, cease to fulfill the decorating function. They become faded, lose their pleasant aroma.

Principles of struggle

Absolutely accurate data on which particular effect the green bronze is most susceptible does not exist. Until recently, the beetle did not pose a significant threat to gardens or vegetable gardens.

Many summer residents are convinced that this species of insects cannot cause large-scale damage to plantations because of the late summer - plants have time to bloom by this period.

Advice! Although adults consume plants, the fight against them should begin with the destruction of the larvae.

Large larvae of bronzes are inhabited by rotten trees, humus heaps. If you get rid of spoiled wood in a timely manner, clean the area of fallen leaves, then the risk of the appearance of an adult malicious “neighbor-insect” in the garden and in the beds is reduced several times.

Important! At the same time, ecologists are sounding the alarm, since bronzes are under threat of extinction. Environmentalists recommend resorting to the destruction of bugs only in extreme cases.

Methods of extermination of a small parasite

There are several ways to get rid of green bugs. Techniques do not fundamentally differ from those used to eliminate other similar pests.

The mechanical way. Manual removal of bronzes is carried out. The action is performed according to the following algorithm:

  1. cold water abundantly sprinkle a plant flooded with a beetle (green bronzovka loses activity and dexterity from cold);
  2. spread oilcloth under a tree, brush off branches - insects will fall off. From low ornamental plants you can manually collect bugs:
  3. after collection, beetles are placed in a vessel filled with kerosene liquid.

The technique is not highly effective. New bugs fly to the site of the dead bronzes. But the method is used by those people who are opponents of spraying fruit plants with aggressive chemicals. A mechanical method is also used during the period of active flowering of plants.

Folk recipes. The method attracts with its safety for humans. The plants on which the May green beetle has settled are treated with various herbal decoctions. Fight off the pest, for example, solutions from dandelions, tansy, wormwood. Do not like bugs and garlic, onions, horseradish, because they can also be actively used.

The chemical way. The essence of the method consists in applying various chemicals to the plants populated by beetles or adding pesticides to the soil to remove individuals wintering or sleeping in it.

Attention! It is forbidden to spray flowering trees with pesticides: this way you can destroy beneficial insects pollinating the garden. In this case, there is a chance to be left without a crop at all.

Apply such means:

  1. “Medvetoks” - bury the drug to a depth of 3-5 cm in the soil, closer to the dark of the day, when the green bronze begins to hide in the ground at night. The drug will destroy the bronze, but will not harm the useful beetles.
  2. "Bazudin", "Thunder" or "Initiative" - bring in dung heaps to destroy the larvae.
  3. "Liquid" smoke - the crown is sprayed (you can use a solution of green soap).

Important! Before use, you should carefully read the instructions. Be sure to comply with the dosage, take measures of personal protection from chemicals.

Preventive methods include plowing the soil immediately after the winter period - this way you can get rid of hibernating bugs and prevent their active reproduction in the future.

  • The beetle is very gluttonous. In the spring I started with lilac flowers, then switched to peonies, for some reason only white, then on the apple tree .15 pieces of beetles sit on an apple and eat it almost completely. Now a pumpkin is blooming, so they climbed into a flower to it, eating away all the insides. That misfortune is worse than the Colorado potato beetle. He at least basically eats potatoes, and it is easier to collect and spray it. And this must be collected everywhere and manually.

    Invincible creature. The fight against windmills - no matter how much you collect, they will fly even more. Hands drop - I have a lot of light roses, because I love fragrant flowers.

    White and light flowers usually smell strongly, as they attract night pollinators by the smell. And at night you can see white. Although bronze is a daytime bug, it also eats up the ovaries of all light odorous flowers - roses, lilacs, peonies, elderberries, yellow cornflower, hydrangea. She also loves sweet ripe pears - they eat half a pear! Conclusion - you can try to make baits with a sweet and fermenting liquid, arrange the basins in a light color to sink. If the walls are smooth, then they cannot get out of the water.
